Every two weeks, The Graduate School asks faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill about what they wish they had known in graduate school. Our next feature is Gary Bowen, Kenan Distinguished Professor in the UNC School of Social Work. Bowen studied social work and family studies in graduate school. He holds a master’s degree in social work and. Ph.D.
“I wish I had known the value of work and life experience to graduate education, as that could have influenced my path in a different way. The opportunity for a graduate education was not going to disappear. That being said, my graduate work at UNC-Greensboro and here at Carolina led me to what turned into an incredibly rewarding research, teaching and administrative career here at the School of Social Work.”
