The free performance will be held on Nov. 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History in observance of Veterans Day.

Actors Sonny Kelly, a UNC-Chapel Hill doctoral student in communication, and Mitchell Capel, who wrote The Color of Courage, will perform the soldiers’ stories in the form of song, poetry, oratory, performance ethnography, music and engaging visual effects.

“Audiences are pulled into the ranks of the African-American soldiers who literally fought for their own freedom during the Civil War,” said Kelly, who has served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. “This show is about our story. Our story as Americans – as humans.”
