The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill marked its annual doctoral hooding ceremony on May 13, 2023.

Graduating Tar Heel Darren Hearn (’16 MPH; ’21 Ph.D.) has focused his research on musculoskeletal injury and performance and how those areas can be applied to people completing military basic training in order to identify those at greatest risk for sustaining injury.

The Graduate School honored doctoral degree recipients at UNC-Chapel Hill on Saturday, May 15. The celebration included a video and interactive gallery of graduates from August 2019 through May 2021.

Graduate School Dean Steve Matson presented the honor during the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Ramesh Raskar, who co-invented a camera to “see around corners,” and a method for “reading” through closed books, will give the keynote address at the 2019 Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Kathryn Lofton, a critic of popular culture and historian of religion, gave the keynote address at UNC-Chapel Hill’s 2018 Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on May 12, 2018.

Blossom Damania, Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has received the 2018 Faculty Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring.
