Membership within the Royster Society of Fellows and its distinguished fellowshop program is among the highest honor awarded by The Graduate School to graduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Seven doctoral students from UNC-Chapel Hill traveled to the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen as part of a global endeavor to build connections abroad among graduate students.

Meet incoming Tar Heel graduate student Emily Chávez who will join the School of Social Work this fall.

Francesca Sorbara is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology, housed in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s College of Arts and Sciences. She is the 2022 recipient of the Coffield Family Summer Research Fellowship, which has allowed her to resume field work after COVID-19 placed a pause on her research.

Lily Herbert ’16 is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography housed in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s College of Arts and Sciences. Herbert is a 2022 recipient of the Ou Family Summer Research Fellowship, which has allowed her to work on her dissertation, centering on hate crime legislation and its geographical ties.

Beth Mayer-Davis, the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Nutrition and Medicine, chair of the Department of Nutrition and the director of the UNC Nutrition Obesity Research Center, has been named dean of The Graduate School, effective Sept. 1.

Seh-Joo Kwon is a Ph.D. candidate within the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s College of Arts and Sciences. She is the recipient of the Carol and Ed Smithwick Summer Research Fellowship.
