UNC Chapel Hill GSC building exterior with sign and grassThe Graduate Student Center, fondly referred to as the GSC, is a hub of the graduate and professional student community and a part of the Carolina experience. Throughout the year, the building is home to The Graduate School’s CareerWell and Student Success teams’ staff and hosts a variety of courses, events, and workshops, as well as coworking and writing sessions for students.

Recent renovations have given this beloved space a much-needed makeover and a boost in charm.

Erected circa 1914 for the United Congregational Christian Church of Chapel Hill, the building exterior retains much of the original character of its gothic revival architecture, and its stained glass is still intact, bringing a rainbow of light to the space interior.

Other additions include new paint, carpet, and cabinetry, as well as new fixtures in the updated gender-neutral bathrooms. Extensive work was done to make the space more open and inviting, and increased hybrid programming capabilities are underway with technology upgrades this month to make the space more functional for students.

Students who haven’t had the opportunity to take in the recent changes are welcome to come and see what’s new; the Graduate Student Center is at 211A West Cameron Ave., conveniently located just a block west of The Carolina Inn.
