Triangle Business Journal has named Kathy Wood, the director of Diversity and Student Success (DSS) at The Graduate School, as a 2021 Leader in Diversity Award Winner. The awards honor the many accomplishments of organizations and individuals as they come together to commit to diversity in the workplace.

Wood, an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has more than 18 years’ experience at The Graduate School and in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in higher education.

DSS aims to recruit and retain a diverse graduate student body and to foster a climate of inclusion and acceptance. Its programs contribute to the successful degree completion of each student through targeted academic and professional development programs. Signature initiatives that have been developed and/or delivered by Wood include the Summer Undergraduate Pipeline initiative, Initiative for Minority Excellence, Carolina Grad Student F1rsts, Queer Graduate and Professional Students, Military-Affiliated Grads, and Global Grads.

Wood will be honored at a luncheon in September. Suzanne Barbour, dean of The Graduate School, said this wonderful honor recognizes Wood’s commitment to equity and inclusion.

“Thank you, Kathy, for your visionary leadership and for providing countless students with a sense of community and belonging on our campus,” Barbour said.
